As a lightweight OS designed primarily for web and app-based computing, it is fast, secure, and resilient to viruses and malware. Current feeling is to go back to Linux.ĬhromeOS is Google's Linux-based operating system built around the Chrome web browser, complete with the ability to run Android apps and a powerful Linux VM.
I tried a MS Surface Book for a while and absolutely hated it. If devices do eventually arrive in the UK, it's late, the prices are high and they never go on sale. Even UK divisions of tech sites review devices that have zero UK information on UK availability. I tried contacting a few and didn't even get a response. Several manufacturers even list devices on their UK site that aren't even available in the UK and there is zero information on if/when they will be. I find various US-centric articles on suitable devices, devices that just either don't exist in the UK or there's no information when they will be brought over. The choice of high-end devices (with 12th/13th gen Intel) is so small anyway and seemingly even smaller in the UK. Finding one has turned out to be a huge pain again. My plan was to buy a high-end Chromebook next. Nice device but I cheaped out on spec so was looking to upgrade, that was until the screen failed and it's now sitting in a cupboard. My next was a (admittedly too low spec) Spin 713.
Reditr chrome install#
It runs out of update support in June (thoughts on what I can install on it?). I still have it now but only for a supplementary PC to listen to music on (with a usb wifi dongle). The first was a HP Chromebook 13 Pro, which was a lovely device but the wifi card in it failed several times. I absolutely love ChromeOS but the general ownership experience of Chromebooks has really started to annoy me.
